April 26, 2008
It was exactly 10 years ago today, on April 26 of 1998, that I registered the searstower-dot-org domain and began development of this very Website, which went live officially on July 27 of 1998.
Although conceived to be primarily an informational resource, it was certainly no coincidence that the 25th anniversary of Sears Tower's topping out was also just around the corner literally one week later on May 3 of 1998.
This major milestone, in combination with the Petronas Towers' completion that same year, spurred the creation of what would become the first Website devoted to Chicago's tallest and most prestigious skyscraper, Sears Tower.
Having been founded almost four years prior to the launch of the official Sears Tower homepage, searstower-dot-org still holds the record for the longest-running enthusiast Website devoted to any single American skyscraper.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the visitors (and contributors) who've made this Website such a popular online destination during the course of the past decade. I look forward to another exciting ten years!
Please note: Even though the building has officially undergone a name change to Willis Tower as of summer 2009, this site will continue to refer to it by the more well-known Sears Tower designation.
